Judy
Overview
Thirty years after starring in "The Wizard of Oz," beloved actress and singer Judy Garland arrives in London to perform sold-out shows at the Talk of the Town nightclub. While there, she reminisces with friends and fans and begins a whirlwind romance with musician Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband.

A Star's Swan Song: The Turbulent Life of Judy Garland

The film's greatest strength lies in the phenomenal performance of Renée Zellweger, who embodies the spirit of Judy Garland with remarkable accuracy and depth. Zellweger's portrayal is not just an impersonation, but a fully realized interpretation of Garland's complexities, capturing the fragility, vulnerability, and resilience that defined her life. The film's supporting cast, including Jessie Buckley and Finn Wittrock, deliver solid performances that add depth and nuance to the story. The cinematography and production design are also noteworthy, effectively recreating the glamour and spectacle of Garland's stage performances and the gritty realism of her personal struggles.
Despite its many strengths, "Judy" is not without its flaws. The film's narrative is sometimes disjointed and uneven, jumping abruptly between different periods and storylines. Additionally, some viewers may find the film's portrayal of Garland's struggles with addiction and mental health to be somewhat sanitized or romanticized. However, these criticisms are minor compared to the film's many achievements, and "Judy" remains a deeply moving and thought-provoking tribute to a true Hollywood legend. Overall, "Judy" is a must-see for fans of Garland and classic Hollywood, as well as anyone interested in a powerful and poignant story about the highs and lows of fame, love, and identity. With its outstanding performances, stunning production values, and unflinching portrayal of a complex and fascinating life, "Judy" is a film that will linger in the minds of viewers long after the credits roll.
